I stopped in at Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a quick pint and greatly enjoyed the Euchre Pilsner. The bartender recommended it based on the pleasant summer day and it was the perfect recommendation. Light and refreshing. I also had a taste of the sour beer on tap which was also delicious.
I stopped in at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte, North Carolina. The atmosphere is German bierhall and biergarten. It’s a great place. I tried a flight of beers. The Fat Boy Baltic Porter was just as I had hoped. Smooth, malty, caramelly. The Copper Amber Ale is a great mix of malty smoothness and a little bite. I was pleasantly surprised with the Hornet’s Nest Hefeweizen. This was crisp and enjoyable. Finally, the Radler, a mix of Captain Jack Pilsner and Sprite (lemon soda) reminded me of the Radler I had in Munich decades ago. Delicious!
I stopped in at Sun King Brewery again this week and Wee Mac Scottish Ale is every bit as good as it was the last time I visited. Great beer.
I stopped in at Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis, Indiana and found that they offer free tastings on weekend days – yay! Of the varieties I tasted, the Wee Mac Scottish Ale was my favorite. It was malty and delicious. The Popcorn Pilsner was delicious as well. Light and refreshing. Their other beers were very good as well. During the tasting time the brewery had plenty of staff on hand to make it an enjoyable time for everyone. I was also impressed with the cool artwork inside. See below. I stopped in at the Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for dinner with a business associate. I started with the Pierogie Platter and a Penn Pilsner, then ordered the sausage sandwich. What a meal. Heavy but delicious. And the pilsner was a crisp offset to the to the heavy meal. The brewery is historic and was a delight to visit and enjoy.
