I stopped in at Broadhead Brewing Company in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for a beer. There never seems to be enough ESBs for those of us who enjoy them. So, naturally, I tried the Hammer and Tongs ESB. Fabulous! If I weren’t traveling by plane I would have grabbed some to take home. Hope I make it back to Ottawa and can stop in again. Proximity to the airport makes that pretty easy.

Tooth and Nail Brewing Company, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
I stopped in at Tooth and Nail Brewing Company in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for a late beer. I had trouble deciding so tried small pours of Vim and Vigor Pilsner (delicious; renewed my faith in pilsner), Tenacity Pale Ale ( a solid pale), and Red Letter Day IPA (certainly a nice IPA). I enjoyed all of the beers.
Big Rig Kitchen and Brewery, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
I stopped in at Big Rig Kitchen and Brewery in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada after a long delayed flight for a late dinner and beer. The Sweet and Spicy Chicken Salad was great. I enjoyed their Scotch Ale with dinner. The beer was right on. Malty, a little bit sweet, and somewhat bitter. Perfect pairing.

Mill Street Brewery, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I stopped in at Mill Street Brewery brewpub in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for dinner and to try their beer. It was happy hour when I arrived so I was able to get a side salad and burger (no bun) for just a few dollars. I enjoyed trying their Honest Bucker Pale Ale which is a hoppy pale ale with hop flavor but not bitter. Very easy to drink. Goes great with food. I also tried Gin Barrel Aged Grapefruit Pale Ale. I’m not as much of a gin drinker but I’ve learned to appreciate many flavor profiles. I do like grapefruit. The mixture of grapefruit and gin was a great match. Very tasty beer. And since this is a limited release I just had to try it. Mill Street Brewery offers root beer and it just so happened that I was sitting at the bar and the bartender was making root beer floats while I was there. I asked him if he’d ever made a stout float. This led to him experimenting and learning a new drink. Cobblestone Stout and vanilla ice cream – just sayin.
Steamworks Brewing Company, Vancouver, BC
I stopped in at Steamworks Brewing Company in Vancouver, British Columbia. I enjoyed dinner there and a flight of four beers with my wife and a coworker. The beers were delicious and so was the salad. We all enjoyed our food and drinks. The food service was really slow. But they comp-ed our salads. The Steak and Stilton Salad was really nice. I enjoyed their Kolsch, Marzen, Flagship IPA, and Smash. The Kolsch and Marzen were tasty but the Flagship IPA was my favorite. It’s fresh and hoppy but not overboard.

Cold Garden Beverage Company, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I stopped in at Cold Garden Brewing Company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and really enjoyed chatting with the bartenders, the great vibe, lots of dogs, and fabulous beer. Birthday Cake beer? Yes! Sign me up. Delicious! One of my favorite flavors – now added to beer. Vanilla Cappuccino Porter. Yes! and now time for bed. Perfect evening drink. Sweet. Smooth. Relaxing. Yum!
Citizen Brewing Company, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I stopped in at Citizen Brewing Company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to try their beers. Tuesday night there was live music and the small tap room was packed. I was gonna have dinner there but wound up standing – standing room only. No problem. Beer was good. Batch 1 Session Ale was really good. Crisp. Clean. Flavorful.
Last Best Brewing Company, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I stopped in at Last Best Brewing Company in Calgary Alberta Canada. Ever since I’ve been traveling to Canada people keep telling me about poutine. Well, I finally tried it here. I enjoyed it! The bartender recommended their Baltic Porter to accompany it which was a great choice. This beer is dark and rich and heavy and sweet and a great way to end the evening. (in a good way)
Brewsters, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I stopped in at Brewsters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I noticed they had a Hawaiian Coconut Porter on tap. I love coconut so I tried it. And it is really good. Nice smooth malty porter with a coconut flavor. Well done.
