I stopped in at Half Door Brewing Company in San Diego, California for dinner. The Victorian house they occupy right down the in Gaslamp District near Petco park is wonderful. It feels like the Irish pub that it emulates. Their food and beer are delightful. I enjoyed the Hanger Steak and my wife said the Scottish Salmon was one of the best dinners she’d ever had. Roark Red Ale is a malty treat that paired well with dinner. And rather than dessert, their Gimmick Ale did not disappoint as an after-dinner drink. Think golden stout with hints of white chocolate and peanut butter. Like a white chocolate peanut butter cup in a glass.

Coronado Brewing Company, Coronado, CA

I stopped in at Coronado Brewing Company in Coronado, California and enjoyed their Guava Islander Tropical IPA. I enjoy IPA’s and I really enjoy guava. Combining these two is a real treat. And, my wife, who typically doesn’t like beer, tasted this and liked it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I returned (3/29/18) with industry colleagues for dinner. The Grilled Wahoo Fish Tacos are delicious! Their Coco Chaos IPA was delightful! I solid IPA with a hint of coconut flavor. Enough coconut to taste it but not overpowering. Great beer!

Zwei Brewing, Fort Collins, CO

I stopped in at Zwei Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. It’s a little bit of Germany in Fort Collins. I greatly enjoyed their Helles Lager. Made me feel like I was in Germany. Hopefully. I’ll make it back there some day. Helles is clean, crisp and drinkable. Great beer and well worth the stop.

Odell Brewing Company, Fort Collins, CO

I stopped in at Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado for a beer. The tap room bartender let me know that 90 Shilling Ale was their flagship and that is what I tried. It is delicious and I’ll be looking for this when I get home. 90 Shilling is an Amber Ale in the Scottish style. It’s malty with a slight hop bitterness. Well worth the drive from Denver!

The Post Brewing Company, Lafayette, CO

I stopped in at The Post Brewing Company in Lafayette, Colorado for dinner and a beer. Their Hot Chicken (spicy fried chicken) is AWESOME! I paired this with Townie Ale, a delicious malty and hoppy blend. I recommend this chicken and beer pairing for everyone!

4 Noses Brewing Company, Broomfield, CO

I stopped in at 4 Noses Brewing Company in Broomfield, Colorado with business associated to try some beer. Their Peachopotamus was delicious, very fruity and sweet, lots of peach in this one. Their Raspberry Blonde was both sweet and tart with a strong raspberry flavor. For fruity beers these were both outstanding!

I stopped in at Joyride Brewing Company, in Edgewater, Colorado with some colleagues on a brew-hop. Joyride Double IPA was delightful – lots of citrus-hoppy bitterness.

I stopped in for a beer at 12Degree Brewing in Louisville, Colorado. The Foxx Rougge was the perfect beer for a chilly fall night. It is rich, has flavors of caramel and dates, and is warming. Watching the Redskins beat the Raiders while enjoying the beer made it perfect.

Prairie Brewpub, Tulsa, OK

I stopped in at Prairie Brewpub in Tulsa, Oklahoma to try their beers. The beer I was most interested in is BOMB. This must be the most complex beer I’ve tried and I’ve tried a lot of beers in the last ten years (at over 500 breweries). BOMB is an Imperial Stout aged on espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans and ancho chile peppers. Sipping this fantastic beer is a taste treat. Each of those flavors is present and can be distinguished. Although it sounds like a lot going on, and it is, it tastes fabulous and those flavors complement each other and make for a delicious beer. This was a great way to end the evening.
