I stopped in at Tailgate Beer in Nashville, Tennessee and enjoyed a flight of beers. Their Watermelon Wheat was tasty but I was hoping for more watermelon flavor. Their Fall Wit was an enjoyable beer – mild in flavor. Grapefruit IPA was also good but again I wanted more grapefruit flavor. The Peanut Butter Milk Stout was smooth and delicious. Just the right amount of peanut butter. This was the last beer I tasted and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the large hosue salad from their kitchen. Their pizzas looked tasty but that would have been too heavy for me at that time. The brewery is a great place and well worth a visit!
I stopped in at Mother Bunch Brewing in Phoenix, Arizona after a long, direct flight from Washington, DC. The Chicken Tinga Tostadas were a great late dinner. And, all of the food I saw delivered to other patrons also looked delicious. Rather than picking one beer, I tried a few four ounce tasters. The Grapefruit Wit was where I started and it was delicious – a slightly tart and very crisp drink to pair with dinner. I then tried the Campfire IPA – a very solid west coast style IPA. Again, a good pair with dinner. I also tried McBride’s Irish Red. I think I realized Irish Reds are not my favorite. This was very good but just not my go to. The Juniper Berry Gose was delicious and also paired well with my meal. It was tart and salty and balanced well with the food. I sampled the Cherry Popper Porter but at the recommendation of the bartender I tried the Oatmeal Chocolate Milk Stout which served as a liquid dessert. OH WOW. So delicious. Very good beers here. If you’re in Phoenix I recommend stopping in and trying them all.
I stopped in at Lenny Boy Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina and tried both the beer and the kombucha. I enjoyed the Mirage Belgian Tripel and also the Tart De La Wit Sour Beer. Both of these were fine beers. I recommend them both. A great example of a Belgian Tripel and a refreshing sour beer. Kombucha is a non-alcoholic fermented beverage that’s high in B-vitamins, probiotics, and amino acids. I really enjoyed the Good Ol Ginger made with real ginger. Both tart and sweet. Lenny Boy Brewing Company is a great place to stop in Charlotte.
I stopped in at Sugar Creek Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. I really enjoyed this brewery. The bartender was very nice and helpful. The tap room was a comfortable place to hang out. I tasted the Framboise raspberry wit. This was really light and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed the Dubbel which was every bit dark, mysterious and dangerous as stated on the beer list.

I stopped at Freetail Brewing Company in San Antonio, Texas for dinner. I enjoyed some nachos and salsa and the beef brisket salad. Both were very good. The beef was a bit fatty but that’s the nature of the beast. I tried a flight of beers. I started with the Primavera Prematura which is a saison with what I consider somewhat of a fruity bite to it. This is not my favorite style but this was a good saison. I moved next to the Multigrain Brown Ale. Sounds healthy. It was dark and rich but tasted burnt to me. Here’s where I completely diverged into new territory. The Spirulina Wit is brewed with blue-green algae. If you look at the picture above you can see the green beer on the right. I’m still living so apparently this isn’t dangerous. It tasted pretty fruity to me. It’s so unique I just had to try it but wouldn’t drink it again. Finally the Round Earth IPA was a good way to end the tasting. It was very good and I enjoyed finishing my meal with it.
