I stopped in at the Mill Valley Beerworks in Mill Valley, California and tasted a few of their beers. Manzanita is a red ale with a smoky flavor almost like barbeque. I really enjoyed this beer. The New IPA tasted like grapefruit to me which is one of the reasons like I like IPA so much. Great beer. The Villager IPA was more mild with understated hops characteristics. Finally, Lobos was a double IPA that was strong and rich, dark and heavy, malty and hoppy. This was a complex beer that I saved for last and am glad I did. Mill Valley Beerworks is a really neat place. I would have enjoyed staying for a meal which I’m sure would have been fabulous but I needed to move on.

Triple Rock Brewing Company, Berkeley, CA
I stopped in at Triple Rock Brewing Company in Berkeley, Califonia and tasted two of their beers. Red Rock Ale is a combination of malty caramel and bitter hoppiness – very good. IPAX is a west coast IPA that would satisfy and hop head’s tastebuds – like mine. Oh, and they offer a great menu but I wasn’t able to grab a meal this time. It ws a great spot to stop for a beer and looks like a great place to have lunch or dinner as well.
Railyard Brewing Company, Montgomery, AL
I stopped in at the Railyard Brewing Company in Montgomery, Alabama for dinner and, of course, a beer. I had shrimp and grits for dinner. What else would you eat when in the south? I tried the Red Clay Irish Ale which was malty and sweet and did not disappoint.
Pikes Peak Brewing Company, Monument, CO
A quick update. One of my students from an on-line class who lives near the area was kind enough to send me a t-shirt from Pikes Peak Brewing Company. Thanks Char. Now I can proudly rep Pikes Peak Brewing Company.
I stopped in at Pikes Peak Brewing Company in Monument, Colorado. The taproom is a really cool place. The wood inside lends to the local feel. I enjoyed the authentic German braided pretzels with my beer, which were very tasty. I started by trying the Devils Head Red Ale which is a malty and caramelly ale with a nice red color. Then I tried the Elephant Rock IPA which has a delicious piny and citrusy flavor. Good food and good beer. I enjoyed both beers so much that I brought a four-pack of the IPA home for myself and I brought a four-pack of the red ale home for a good friend who likes red ales.
